Video Recap of our Gorge Experience

Jan 22, 2014

I forgot that I took quite a few videos from our time at The Gorge last summer.
In case you don't remember, that trip was one of the highlights of our lives.
I blabbed about it for weeks.
You can catch up via photos and funny stories here and go here to see more from our time in Seattle.
If that sounds absolutely terrible and time consuming, then just watch this little recap:

Portland {Part 3}

Jan 15, 2014

To cap off our little visit to Portland, we hit the high points:
Voodoo Donuts
The Deschutes Brewery
Henry's (even though we live next door to it in Plano)
The coast (and the Goonies Rock!)

Have I mentioned how much I love this city?
The yellow leaves were my favorite.
We were fully prepared for the Voodoo Donut lines to be insane.
The wait went by really fast though, thanks to the homeless street performers.
Glittery bricks.
Attention to detail.
. . . beware of the voodoo magic!
I've never experienced menu anxiety like this before.
Sweating. Panic. The shakes.
What to do!
When in doubt, just get a coffin full of donuts.
We settled on:
The Voodoo Doll
The Gay Bar (cream filled topped w/ fruit loops)
Dirty Snowball (chocolate doughnut w/ marshmallow topping, coconut & peanut butter)
Bacon Maple Bar
The Old Dirty Bastard (chocolate donut topped with oreos and peanut butter)
Honestly, I couldn't pick a favorite.
They were all incredible, and now I'm just sitting here, staring at this photo, craving each & every one.
Crap.
Is it weird that I saved the lid of the box?
I loved staring (and drooling) over all the Pendleton wool in the window of the Portland Outdoor Store.
We spent the afternoon of our last full in day town on the coast.
There aren't many places in America where you can drive an hour east to the mountains and an hour east to the coast.
It was another great experience (except for seeing these signs everywhere).
The fog-lined coast was gorgeous.
Goonies fans, anyone?
Josh is so artsy.
We will call this one: Pacific coast shadow.
Snaps.
Hey whale.
On our way back into town I made Josh drive across the Burnside bridge until I got the perfect photo of the stag sign.
Josh told me I was the ultimate Portland tourist carrying around Voodoo and Stumptown.
Whoops.
Saturday night dinner:
Pizzicato
$5 for an incredible slice of pizza and a local brew
I don't remember which pizza I had but I do remember thinking it was one of the best ever.
. . . now I'm angry I can't remember.
Guess we'll just have to go back.
We topped off the night with some samplers at the Deschutes brewery (followed by some not-samplers)
I wasn't sure if I was just seeing things or not, but this picture proves that there truly is a Doc Martens store on this planet.
On our last morning in our new favorite city, I took a bath while eating leftover Voodoo Donuts and drinking Stumptown cold brew.
Best. Bath. Ever.
. . . followed by drinking chocolates from Cacao for breakfast, no joke.
Cacao was attached to our hotel.
We couldn't just not go there.
We did some last minute souvenir shopping (and found this awesome boutique/record label) where we stocked up on some Christmas tree ornaments and Typhoon records.
I also fell in love with this boutique (and got suckered into buying a wool clutch)
The original Henry's.
A little flashback to the 'ol stomping grounds.
Our final meal was back at Deschutes Brewery (we couldn't get enough of that place).
Look at that sexy man and his sexy new shirt.
Mmmmhmmmm.
Such a bittersweet feeling, leaving Portland after celebrating one year of marriage with my favorite travel partner.
I couldn't have asked for a more perfect vacation!
In case you want to catch up on the rest of our trip you can go here for part one and here for part two!
Video recap coming soon . . .

Friday's Letters

Jan 12, 2014

Dear Sunday,
Let's pretend like you are still Friday.

Dear new record player,
I love that you confuse the crap out of Charlie.
Dear longggg weekend of shopping with the gals,
I think it's been a full year since I could honestly say I've shopped for over an hour.
You were lovely and I'm now extra broke.
Dear Ellie,
No sleeping past 7am in this house.
Dear Charlie,
Stop being so gangsta.
Dear patterned leggings,
Even though I'm rather late to this trend, you fit in quite nicely with my oversized sweater collection.
Dear bows-n-bangs,
I'm glad you are a trend that is dead and gone (although, I did pull it off quite nicely at the ripe age of 8, eh?)
Dear Adam and Bart,
Happy Birthday you old men you.
P.S.
Dear Texas,
Quit trying to make king cakes.
You are absolutely terrible at it.
 Dear five people pictured below,
I like you a lot.
A whole heck of a lot.

I'm still not over Christmas

Jan 8, 2014

Our Christmas tree is still up and I don't feel bad about it one bit.
Charlie refuses to look at it though.
With Disney and work, Christmas seemed like a bit of a blur this year.
I did manage to send out Christmas cards though (phew).
. . . with the caption "Have your selfie a merry little Christmas"
For real.
I tried my hardest to prepare adequately for Christmas.
. . . but sometimes you buy really cute wrapping paper, and there's only enough on the roll to wrap two boxes.
No joke.
. . . and then sometimes the lines are 100 people deep at Michael's that you just kinda give up on wrapping altogether.

No worries though, I survived the Christmas prep thanks to this little bit of heaven:

. . . and the stockings were hung by the whiskey with care.

Both of us were a bit shocked to find out that Christmas Eve wasn't considered a holiday in the surgical world (but the day after Thanksgiving is? weird).
Poor Josh had to work Christmas Eve.
Thankfully, we were able to leave Dallas early enough to arrive in Louisiana just in time to
. . . shave my brother's beard.
Christmas morning was lovely.
Even though mom and dad told us we weren't allowed to buy each other Christmas presents this year, #Disneyprobs, Mikey surprised me with a Diana camera.
He is seriously slowly, but surely turning into the most thoughtful, greatest gift giver ever.
Christmas dinner was our traditional seafood smorgasbord (see some more of our strange Christmas traditions here)
The creative oyster creations are slowly but surely turning into a heated competition.
I was so glad to be able to spend another Christmas with these two goobers.
Josh had to go back home for work, but I stayed in Louisiana for Christmas celebrations with our neighborhood family.
Mom provided some pretty darn good homemade cocktails for the occasion.
Cranberry mojitos with cranberry infused simple syrup.
We also got to spend a relaxing weekend after Christmas with Josh's side of the family.
As if we weren't full enough from Disney food and Christmas food, we somehow still had room for s'mores!
This year I actually filled Charlie's stocking with treats and I feel like such a douche for doing it.
He is not a human.
He is not a human.
He is not a human.
I hope you and your loved ones had an equally wonderful Christmas season!
I think I'll continue to celebrate it for a few more weeks.
The Christmas scented Glade plug-ins really keep me in the spirit :)
