Marriage so far . . .

Jul 31, 2013

I tried my best to go into marriage with no expectations.
Who would ever expect a near naked boy interrupting your bath time with a banjo serenade?
I had no clue what it would be like to have a full-time boy roommate (plus a dog roommate).
The occasional couch and rug stain frustrations (via man and dog) are immediately erased after sweet mornings like this.
Before we got married, I always wondered if I would get sick of Josh being there 24/7 and feel the need to have some "me time"
Not the case.
I'm pretty sure Charlie is the only one feeling the need for "me time" after the psychological abuse he receives.
I also wondered if we would succumb to the oh-so-common post-marriage weight gain phenomenon.
Guilty.
BUT staying active with this guy isn't the problem, the endless food and drink options around Dallas is the problem.
In the future, when I think back on our first year of marriage, I think my memory will be primarily filled with images similar to this.
I don't think I say it enough, but I'm terribly thankful for these two boys.

Two-for-Tunesday: Josh covers Bob Dylan + Avett Brothers New Song

Jul 30, 2013

Finally.
We get some Dylan from Josh
P.S.
. . . all the magic that comes after the two minute mark stays on repeat in my car.

. . . in case that didn't tickle your fancy (if it didn't then we can't be friends, sorry) there's this:
The Avett Brothers performed a "never-before-heard" song backstage at the Newport Folk Festival.
Happy Tunesday, folks.

NYC: The Governor's Ball Music Festival

Jul 29, 2013

Last month we went to New York to surround ourselves with the magic that is live music and great festival food.
(In case you missed part one of our trip to New York go here!)
We've had experience with music festivals all over the country, but this particular one was probably the most challenging one yet.
Three reasons:
1) Tropical Storm Andrea
2) The fact that the festival was on an island and transportation to and from the island was very limited
3) Tropical Storm Andrea

Day 1 in a nutshell:
Thanks to some silly tropical storm that decided to drop in, we spent most of Friday evening soaking wet.
Most of the bands had to cancel their shows that night (but thankfully they were able to reschedule throughout Saturday and Sunday)
Thankfully we enjoyed Local Natives before the monsoon picked up too much.
Day 2 in a nutshell:
I was thankful for the encouragement provided by this sign.
Side note:
The "You're Doing Great" stage was on a driving range.
Ordinarily this would be awesome.
Due to the tropical storm plus a bazillion people stompin around in the mud, golf balls seemed to rise from the ground like zombies.
It was kinda awesome at first, then it just got annoying.
Seeing Edward Sharpe and the gang play "Om Nashi Me" made me cry.
Why?
The day we got engaged Josh told me that was the one and only song that he demanded play some part in our wedding.
It became the song that played as we exited the ceremony as man and wife.
Now you can go listen to it and cry too.
We also got to see Dirty Projectors that day too!
Josh and Bart were basking in all of the glory that comes with VIP-ness.
(See what I did there?)
Marsh and I were just measly peasants on the other side of the fence.
(Temporarily at least, we got sneaky)
Reunited.
At last.

Is it ironic that we often "rinsed" our feet off using a mud puddle?
Day 3 in a nutshell:
Seeing Beirut was lovely.
We also so Animal Collective.
Meh.
Seeing The Avett Brothers was phenomenal, as always.
Highlights:
Seeing Beirut for the first time
Going absolutely nuts with The Avett Brothers (instead of watching Kanye West with the rest of the world)
Eating snowcones while enjoying The Lumineers
. . . who did an awesome cover of Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" and a CCR cover of “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” and then had a little children's choir from New York come out to join them in singing Ho Hey and Stubborn Love
(Yes, all of the above)

. . . so maybe the mud and rain and dirty feet truly wasn't all thaaaaaaat bad after all

Lollapalooza 2010 & Lollapalooza 2012, Austin City Limits and that time we met Justin Vernon, Mile High, Rothbury, JazzFest, and Sasquatch

Friday's Letters

Jul 26, 2013

Dear Madewell,
How do you manage to suck every last dollar out of my already near empty wallet?
. . . but I can't complain because I found some of your clothes at the J. Crew outlet!
Dear everyone who just witnessed the above photo,
Please stop right now and say a prayer to sweet baby Jesus thanking him that I am not a fashion blogger.

Dear Ellie,
Thanks for coming to work with me this week.
You make me thankful I'm not a student anymore.
Dear Charlie's long lost twin brother,
What the what?!?!
Dear hungry people of America,
The recipe for the best tacos in America (according to Josh) is coming to a computer screen near you.
Next week.
Dear Mrs. Laura,
Thanks for adding to our every growing collection of vintage cameras.
Dear Texas sunshine + Dallas Blonde Beer + Thursday night pool parties,
Thanks.
For everything.
Dear Josh and Charlie,
Have I mentioned lately that I love you?
Dear Charlie,
It's cool.
We wanted to sleep on the floor anyways.
Happy weekend guys!

NYC Part 1 {The City}

Jul 24, 2013

Remember that one time we went to New York this summer and I completely forgot to blog about it?
Whoops.
Sorry for the disappointment, I can feel your angry glares from here.
Well, by the way, we went to New York last month for the Governor's Ball Music Festival.
Usually on our trips females are in the minority.
In the past it has proven to be quite the challenge for me to get the boys up and moving so that we can take advantage of everything the city has to offer.
This was not the case for New York (I'm still not sure what got into these boys.)
We had plenty of time each morning before the festival started to make the rounds throughout the city.
We conquered all the highlights:
The High Line
Grimaldi's Pizza
Shake Shack
Central Park
The Brooklyn Bridge
Chinatown
We stayed at The Ravel Hotel in Queens, which had quite the view (even during that silly tropical storm that decided to come through our first night in town)
I'm a sucker for cute storefront windows.
Chinatown reminded me of Fruit Ninja.
The entrance to The Dakota, where John Lennon was shot.
Brunch with a view!
Siyonara NYC.
See you soon.
. . . but not too soon, city life always proves to be a tad overwhelming.
Don't miss part 2!
