Our Halloweekend

Oct 30, 2011

I got to spend another weekend jam packed full of awesomeness with my two favorite dudes . . .

Charlie wasn't as entertained by CharDee McDennis as I was . . .

Texas loves Ron Paul.
Hmmm, Ron Paul wins another straw poll
Fascinaaaating.

Wine and cheeeeese . . . along with a fantastic home cooked meal, I might add.

Saturday night, we had tickets to go see a band we've been wanting to see for a while . . .

For future reference, if you ever go to the annual Ghostland show Halloween weekend in Dallas:
1) Wear a costume
2) Don't be sober
3) Show up SUPER late
4) Beware of little girls covered in glitter, they are evil and will hurt you in order to get a good view

Anyways, the show was nuts.
I love lasers.

This morning, we had Sunday brunch at our current favorite restaurant around . . .

I need this light fixture in my life.
(or my imaginary future house)

Fried green tomatoes, egg, bacon, and cheese sammy.

Blueberry creme brûlée stuffed french toast coated in Captain Crunch.
True. Story.

Happy (almost) Halloween!

Charlie is . . . a scavenger

Oct 29, 2011

This dog has major talent.
He's been known to scavenge (can you use that as a noun?) many things
(like my cupcakes the last two times I've gone to Sprinkles . . . I'm still bitter)
. . . but I think a skunk's tail tops them all.

Josh came home the other day to find this little trove of treasures under his guest bed.

His expression at the end is totally like "Wtf? I didn't do it. Gah."

This is from Josh's old house in college.
(btw, wood paneling is so hot right now)

His face just screams bustedddddd.

Not even sure what went down here . . .

Lately he's been on a rabbit kick.
No, silly dog, guinea pigs are not rabbits.

As soon as Josh opens his apartment door, Charlie's first instinct is to immediately lodge himself in the bushes (see video below) with the hopes of finding a rabbit.

What a weird one.

I love Josh . . . Hamilton

Oct 28, 2011

In honor of the Rangers being so dang awesome + Jenna's awesome Halloween costume from last year . . .
I wanted to do a little post about Josh Hamilton today.

If you haven't heard of the I Am Second video series, then you are either from Mars or you've been living in a bomb shelter from Y2K.
His testimony is by far one of the greatest I've heard . . .

It's hard to love Josh Hamilton any more than Jenna loves him.
She's been known to watch the video above repetitively, and still tear up every time.

Number one fan, right there . . .
(In case you are confused, I was Carlos from the Hangover. Irrelevant.)

Josh pic!

Come onnnnnnnn Rangers!!

Andrew Bird's Documentary "Fever Year"

Oct 27, 2011

Andrew Bird is the definition of pure musical genius.

P.S. Did you notice the little cameo from St. Vincent?

Cats of the World

Oct 26, 2011

Josh made a trip to Egypt this summer to visit his friend Ricker.
I unwillingly let him borrow my camera (after all, he bought it for me so I guesssssss he has a little right to it) and he returned it with some amazing pictures, but also some very peculiar pics.
I’ll let him take over from here . . . I have no words.
Side note: Josh is allergic to cats.
-Emily
cat 1 |kat|
nouna small domesticated carnivorous mammal with soft fur, a short snout, and retractile claws. It is widely kept as a pet or for catching mice, and many breeds have been developed. • Felis catus, family Felidae(the cat family); probably domesticated in ancient Egypt from the local race of wildcat, and held in great reverence there.

Over the years I have become increasingly curious about this four legged creature, I guess you could say I am "curious like a cat". After carefully studying and reading numerous articles on cats and their history, I became increasingly intrigued. Cats began to consume my thoughts and I knew I had to learn more about them. It was then that I decided I would make my lifes project traveling the world to see the cats. What you are about to see is the beginning of my work.

This is a cat chillin' next to a potted plant in Istanbul.

Cat of Jerusalem inside the old city.

This is a very rare Turkish Van cat. The reason they are so rare is because they only come from Van, Turkey. We were lucky enough to stumble upon this rare find in a Turkish carpet shop in Fethiye.
Notice the Turkish Van kitten with its mother.

This is a restaurant cat in the city of Antalya, Turkey.

This was a cat hanging outside of the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, Turkey.

The are cats of the Dead Sea in the West Bank Palestinian territory that are in love.

Cat hanging out next to the gift shops outside of Ephesus.

This cat happened to be wandering around the Cairo Museum in Egypt. I was lucky enough to steal a quick picture on my phone because they took the cameras at the front.

Egyptian mummified cat.

Cat on the harbor of Antalya in Turkey.

Came across this multi colored cat while waiting for a ferry to take us across the Bosphorus to take us from the European side of Istanbul to the Asian side.
Fact: Istanbul is the only city in the world that is located on two continents.

Cat outside the museum in Cairo, Egypt.

Cats of the Blue Lagoon in Oludeniz, Turkey.
Now, these cats were very skiddish and this is as close as they would let me get to them.

Cat of Istanbul, Turkey.

Cat of Ephesus.

Avery nice cat I came across in the theatre of Ephesus.
Ephesus is the most well preserved Roman city in the world.
This is a cat that was taking a "cat nap" outside of the old city walls in Jerusalem.

This is a cat outside of the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey.

Rare Turkish Van cat. Notice that one eye is blue and one is green. This is a very important feature of the cat.

This is a cat of the Cairo Zoo, it is actually a lion, but still a cat at heart.

Mile High Music Festival 2008

Oct 25, 2011

The summer of 2008 was filled with lots and lots of traveling and music.
Not only did we get to go to the first annual Rothbury Music Festival, but we also went to the first annual Mile High Music Festival in Denver.

It was a long, loud, windy ride (5 deep!) in Bart's Foe-Runner . . .
No worries, I held down the back end on top of all the luggage pretty well.
The lineup was pretty loaded with some big names, and we did our best to wake up early enough to hold down the fort on the front row.
We were so young and and full of energy and naive back then . . .

Bret Dennen.
Meh.
Citizen Cope.
Awkward eye contact!
Maggie and I made friends with some sweet Colorado girls, and we still keep in touch with Holly who is also a huge music festival fan (on the left).
Jared made friends with this lovely individual.

Gavin Degraw stood on the glittery piano.
Strange.

O.A.R.

One Republic
John Mayer came out 30 mins early and played "Start Me Up"
Nuts.

Topless.
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
We were the recipients of many winks from Mr. Petty himself.
True story.
Steve Winwood joined Tom on stage for a few.
Why, hello there Santy Clause.
We became besets buddies with the security guard, Wes Russ, my b.
Highlight of the weekend:
. . . being front row for Dave Matthews Band, again.
Jared and Josh took their annual pic.
Conveniently, beside a water bottle of pee.
Half the photo creeds go out to Mags and Josh.
Mad skillzzz guys.
Yes, thats right, skills with three z's.

Addendum:
So after I posted this, I was kindly reminded by the attendees of some memories I left out.
In the spirit of documenting and not forgetting these pertinent moments in time I will list them here:

-Bart's car didn't have a tail light and working lights in the dashboard, and we were driving to Denver overnight, so we had to ride the whole way with the flashers on and using a cell phone light to see the speedometer and the gas tank meter thing.

-In one of the sprints to the main stage to hold down a spot on the front row, Josh didn't realize running down a hill was involved, until he had done a flip and smacked his face flat on the grass.
It was a learning experience.

-Gavin Degraw decided to jump off the stage and stand on the railing in front of Bart and "put his groin way to close for comfort"

-Some obnoxious little kiddies, decided to embarrass themselves at the DMB show much more than they knew by screaming "Hey Dave!" to the music at the time when we (the individuals much more educated in the ways of Dave) were singing the line "evvvvveryday"
Newbs.

-We got verbally and physically abused by a Rodrigo y Gabriella fan who was kinda upset by our lawn chairs keeping her from being front row for her favorite band in the universe, I guess.
I might have mayyyybe accidentally asked her if she was pregnant, fully aware that she wasn't.
