Honeymoonin' Iceland: Scuba Diving the Silfra Ravine

Dec 13, 2012

When we initially told people where we were going for our honeymoon, the most common response was "seriously?"
We aren't beachy people and we also didn't want to lay around all day "relaxing"
We wanted to try new, different things and have experiences we could never get in America.
Now, we love to scuba dive, but usually one would dive in the warm ocean over a very Finding Nemo-esque coral reef or something.
Not in Iceland.
We chose to dive in the Silfra Ravine.
Without getting all geologist on you, I'll give you the basics:
Silfra is actually the ravine between the Eurasian and the American continental plates, which are drifting apart about 2 cm every year.
The water is glacier runoff water and it has a constant temperature of 2-4°C year round.
Fun fact about the water: It actually travels for 50-100 years underground from the glaciers before it reaches the ravine!
Thankfully we had dry suits, but the dive was definitely a challenge.
Actually the challenge was changing out of the suits soaking wet in 34 degree weather after the dive.
I've literally never been that cold in my life.
It was well worth it though, because the ravine was gorgeous and the colors was absolutely incredible.
We booked our dive through the company Arctic Adventures (who was great to work with, by the way) and our incredible guide documented everything on the pictures below:
Finally all warm and cozy!

I did this too, but my dry suit failed. I started getting super cold but thought I was being a wuss as everybody else was fine. Then I suddenly realized something wasn't right. I had to get helped out of the suit and convulsed for hours after. Have definitely never been so cold. Somehow still worth it!

The life under water is very much different. You have to work for the life in this season and show your skills in the water that your're the person who can resist in this environment. Make the college-paper-writing-service.reviews from the water and enjoy the under water life.

This is the dashboard diary from where you can see the pictures of the adventure and the other fun and this is very best environment for your fun. The fashion style for the astoria vr headset is also mentioned in this place.

I needed to design a scuba plunging trip with my family, perhaps to like Monterey, Ca. Will we need to do a class first? Assuming this is the case, to what extent is the class? Will we need to jump with a teacher? Also, to what extent after the class do we need to hang tight to go on a genuine jump?

Much appreciated
