My first blogger date!

Aug 17, 2012

A few weeks ago while we were in Chicago we had the privilege of meeting up with one of my favorite bloggers.
Now, I've never experienced a blogger date (or "blate" if you will) and I've always been skeptical of them.
If I hadn't received the most perfect, hilariously written e-mail of all time, then I most likely would have never accepted a "blate" offer.
I couldn't help but share it with everyone because it still cracks me up (and Morgan gave me permission!)

Ok so I couldn't just ignore the fact that you are going to be in Chicago this weekend ;-) Now, let me preface this....I am really very weary about meeting up with people I do not actually know, and then there is the whole awkward what if we have nothing to talk about and realize we don't like each other in person, or the more awkward, you and I both turn out to be two psycho criminals who keep fake blogs as a cover (seriously?), and then, worse, since we didn't like each other in person we might not want to be blog friends anymore. Which would be much more sad to me than you because my measly blog traffic would probably drop about 25%. So there are all sorts of dangers that come with stepping out on this limb...But I just have to throw it out there ...because I would hate to miss out on an opportunity --

Do y'all want to meet up for a drink in Chicago this weekend???!
Check this box for yes
This box for no

I am sure you already have a jam packed itinerary but if you all are able to get away from the awesomeness that is Lollapalooza (...I still cannot believe we didnt get tickets in time....) at any point, there are a ton of bars / restaurants in the area around Grant Park to choose from, and Andrew and I would be happy to meet y'all!! Just let me know!! And regardless, have an awesome time. xox Morgan

I'm not gonna lie, I got a lot of crap from the guys when I asked them if they wanted to go told them our plans.
They were all like "Um, no this is weird you weirdo" and "You are stupid and this will be awkward"
All I had to say to Josh was "They are from Atlanta and they love Ron Paul and Sweetwater" and he approved.
Needless to say, we accepted the offer, and I'm so so so so so glad we did.
We had an absolute blast.

After an adventurous subway ride, we made our way to Wrigleyville to go to our favorite sandwich place of all time, Lucky's Sandwich Co.
(A former Man vs Food stop, duh)

Mikey had a problem keeping up with his clothing.

Ellie and I with sweet Morgan!

The boys got along perfectly with Morgan's husband Andrew.

We LOVE our new friends and I'm so thankful for Morgan being so brave and contacting us!
Major props to her.
I don't think I could have done it myself.

Go check our Morgan's blog here and send her some love!
(She's a much much much better writer than me, so seriously, go. She'll be guest posting for me next week while I'm gone so be sure to check it out!)

So jealous!! i still haven't gone on my first "blate" yet... I mean it is a little difficult considering I live in Maine and there's no one here, but this looked fun! So glad everyone got along and there wasn't any awkwardness. :)

you, your original friends, and your new friends, look like you have been friends forever! I am so happy your "blate" worked out. I have a friend who thinks bloggers are criminals in disguise. My husband thinkgs its fun that I blog, but thinks it is weird for bloggers to meet in person. So kudos to your boyfriend!

Gah, I have the same fear of dates with strangers. It probably stems from the fact that I'm the most awkward person ever in person.
Glad yours went well, though! Inspiration for me for the future :P
