Rock Climbing Lake Mineral Wells + Possum Kingdom

Dec 13, 2011

Last fall, we planned a little weekend getaway in Texas with some of our friends (and dogs!) to do some climbing.

We stayed in a cabin on Possum Kingdom Lake and did all the climbing at Lake Mineral Wells State Park.
It was a quick trip, but we made the most of our time there.

When we weren't climbing, we did lots of visiting, laughing, cookin, and maybe a liiiiitle drinking.
. . . oh yea and charades happened.

I was mostly excited to spend quality time with my best friend from high school, Elizabeth, who took a little break from grad school at Auburn.
(That weekend was the Heisman announcement and she was just a tad bit excited about Cam Newton winning)

All the boys brought their dogs, so we had a little brown dog fest in the cabin.

I think the peer pressure got to Charles . . . this was the first time we ever saw him pee with his leg lifted.

Cactus growing from the rocks . . . sounds complicated.

One of Sutton's many harness free climbs . . .

It was our first time top roping without sport routes so it took the brave boys some time to set up and anchor in from the top, but we managed.

You know, just some dudes on a cliff looking out into the wild blue yonder . . .

I hung out on top to get some good pics of the view and the climbers.

Climbed 30+ feet without a harness.

Liz was sooooo brave!

She conquered the beast!

. . . and she was all like "That was easy, I need a challenge."
(with her numb fingers and wobbly knees)

Josh was officially crowned The Possum King.

What a champ.

See ya next time Possum Kingdom!
