"Backpacking the Yosemite Backcountry"
Saturday May 14, 2011

After stopping at the Yosemite Wilderness Center to get our backcountry permits, we settled on a route that we thought our "not that in shape" bodies could handle.
A 4.3 mile 2,000 ft elevation "hike" to Little Yosemite Valley campground carrying 30-40 pound backpacks.
Little did we know, we would be climbing to the summit of two major waterfalls, which involved at least one full mile of switchbacks.
At the start of the hike, we wondered why we were getting so many strange looks . . . I guess it was the backpacks, because we only saw maybe 5 more backpackers on the whole trail.
It took us 5 hours to each the backpackers campground, and only 2 hours to come back down.
Josh referred to the trip walking up as walking up a down escalator for 4 hours. It was beyond strenuous, but the incredible sights made every difficult step worth it.
We saw some of the most beautiful sights in the world, I don't know if the pictures will be able to do it justice.
We met a local along the way who told us that we couldn't have picked a better time to come.
He said that this time of year had the fewest tourists, the best weather, and it is also when the waterfalls are at their best.

Anyways, enough jabber . . . here's the pics, all 50 of them.
Don't hate me.

We wondered why some many people had on ponchos . . . after we summited the waterfall we found out the answer.
That portion of the hike was called The Misty Trail.

I made this short video just to show the magnificence of the rainbow and waterfall

See all those little tiny specs? Those are people.

We were surprised to still see snow on the ground in so many places towards the top.

We had a little visitor at our campsite

Water time!

Little Yosemite Valley

The cutest darn creek I ever did see.

Josh fell.

We had a rude little woodpecker friend who loved munching on our trail mix.
