NYC: The Governor's Ball Music Festival

Last month we went to New York to surround ourselves with the magic that is live music and great festival food.

We've had experience with music festivals all over the country, but this particular one was probably the most challenging one yet.

Three reasons: 

1) Tropical Storm Andrea 

2) The fact that the festival was on an island and transportation to and from the island was very limited

3) Tropical Storm Andrea

Day 1 in a nutshell:

Thanks to some silly tropical storm that decided to drop in, we spent most of Friday evening soaking wet.

Most of the bands had to cancel their shows that night (but thankfully they were able to reschedule throughout Saturday and Sunday)

Thankfully we enjoyed Local Natives before the monsoon picked up too much.

Day 2 in a nutshell:

I was thankful for the encouragement provided by this sign.

Side note: 

The "You're Doing Great" stage was on a driving range.

Ordinarily this would be awesome.

Due to the tropical storm plus a bazillion people stompin around in the mud, golf balls seemed to rise from the ground like zombies.

It was kinda awesome at first, then it just got annoying.

Seeing Edward Sharpe and the gang play "Om Nashi Me" made me cry.

Why?

The day we got engaged Josh told me that was the one and only song that he demanded play some part in our wedding.

It became the song that played as we exited the ceremony as man and wife.

Now you can go listen to it and cry too.

We also got to see Dirty Projectors that day too!

Josh and Bart were basking in all of the glory that comes with VIP-ness.

(See what I did there?)

Marsh and I were just measly peasants on the other side of the fence.

(Temporarily at least, we got sneaky)

Reunited.

At last.

Is it ironic that we often "rinsed" our feet off using a mud puddle?

Day 3 in a nutshell:

Seeing Beirut was lovely.

We also so Animal Collective.

Meh. 

Seeing The Avett Brothers was phenomenal, as always. 

Highlights:

Seeing Beirut for the first time

Going absolutely nuts with The Avett Brothers (instead of watching Kanye West with the rest of the world) 

Eating snowcones while enjoying The Lumineers

. . . who did an awesome cover of Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" and a CCR cover of “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” and then had a little children's choir from New York come out to join them in singing Ho Hey and Stubborn Love
(Yes, all of the above)

. . . so maybe the mud and rain and dirty feet truly wasn't all thaaaaaaat bad after all
